The suburb is surrounded by the Black Mountain, Pomona, Lake MacDonald, Ridgewood, Eerwah Vale, and Eumundi suburbs.
According to the Australian population census, Cooroy had recorded 3, 971 residents on 2011.
History of Cooroy
Cooroy came from the Aboriginal term, kurui meaning possum. It was named after the Cooroy Mountain, which was previously known as the Coorooey.
In 1863, timber-cutters begin to explore the land. It became prominent for its timber industry but was develop as the center of fruit growing and dairying after several decades.
The first butter factory in Cooroy was opened in 1915.
The town became more progressive with the opening of the Cooroy railway station and post office in 1981.
Schools were also established in the suburb. The first school opened was the Cooray State School in 1909 followed by the Cooray West State School in 1911.
