Mooloolaba is a suburb in Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia. It sits 3 miles of Maroochydore and 60 miles of Brisbane central business district.
Considered as a tourist resort township, Mooloolaba lies in the local government of Sunshine Coast Region and is surrounded by the suburbs of Alexandra Headland, Buderim, Mountain Creek, Coral Sea, Parrearra, Budina, and Minyama.
Located south is the Mooloolah River and in the east is the Coral Sea.
There are 7,333 residents in the region based on the 2011 Australia census.
History of Mooloolaba
Mooloolaba came from the aboriginal term mulla meaning Red- bellied Black Snake or mulu meaning snapper fish.
The suburb as initially regarded as the Mooloolah Heads. In mid 1919, Thomas O’ Connor renamed it to Mooloolaba.
Gubbi Gubbi tribes were the first settlers in the region until the arrival of Lieutenant Heath and his troops on 1861. They surveyed both the land and the harbor.
Tom Petrie arrived a year after to acquire timber.
Later on, Pettrigrew bought a portion of land at the entrance of the Mooloolah River and took over the timber trade in the region for about 30 years.
In the mid-1920’s Mooloolah’s population had grown significantly. Public areas were developed into commercial centers with holiday houses and cottages along the river.
Roads were improved and public amenities were developed.
Today, Mooloolaba is considered a perfect residential and holiday destination in Sunshine Coast.
