History of Sippy Downs
The name Sippy came from the Aboriginal term Jippi or Dhippi, which is referred to winged creatures.
The suburb is part of the Moolooloo Plains, a place leased by the John Westaway & Sons. The land became available for rental in 1970 but was not occupied until 1938.
Alfred Grant bought the land and sold a portion of it to Frank Cunning, where he grew cattle. In 2002, Cunning sold it to INVESTA property group.
Sippy Downs officially became a suburb in 1993 based on the rezone made by the Shire of Maroochy.
